Vakhtang earned a degree in Civil Architecture from the Georgian State Academy of Arts in 2001. He subsequently pursued advanced studies in urbanism, completing an MSc in Urban Strategies at the Institute of Architecture, University of Applied Arts Vienna (Austria) from 2007 to 2008.
Between 2013 and 2016, he undertook a second MSc in Urban Studies and Planning at the Higher School of Economics, National Research University in Moscow, Russia. In 2019–2020, he was selected for the Special Program for Urban and Regional Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA, USA. As part of this program, he completed a professional internship with the Urban Planning Department at Boston City Hall.
Since 2021, he has served as a lecturer at Ilia State University, where he was appointed Head of the Bachelor of Architecture Program in 2022. In parallel with his academic work, he is regularly invited as an expert in architecture and urban planning by various public institutions and private-sector organizations.
Over the past two decades, Vakhtang has contributed to a wide range of architectural and urban planning initiatives across diverse international contexts. His professional experience includes collaborations with major organizations such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia (MDF), and the Tbilisi Development Fund. He has also collaborated with renowned architecture firms including MVRDV, Kengo Kuma & Associates, and VTN Architects, as well as with private sector clients such as the Silk Road Group, Toyota Center Georgia. Gulf Georgia, In addition, Vakhtang has engaged in academic and research initiatives with institutions such as Politecnico di Milano, Gdańsk University of Technology, Ilia State University, Tbilisi Academy of Arts.
